The headstone of the FLOWER family grave currently rests against the wall of Emborough churchyard and sadly has become badly
eroded, however the inscription reads: "To the memory of Betty, wife of George Flower, daughter of Peter and Sarah Loxton of this parish, who
died Dec. 1st 1804 aged 34. Also Eliza, daughter of George and Catherine Flower, who died Oct. 9th 1825 aged 4 years.
Also 3 of their children
who died in their infancy. Also Catherine, wife of George Flower, who died February 15th 1869 aged 70 years.
The memory of the just is blessed.
Also George Flower, husband of the above, who died Oct. 5th 1873 aged 76 years".
'Eliza' was presumably George and Catherine's daughter
Elizabeth, but the date of death recorded on the headstone does not correspond with her burial date of 7th August. The headstone was
probably erected many years after Elizabeth's death and it seems likely that whoever commissioned the inscription did not have the
correct details for her, which would also account for why she is shown as Eliza rather than Elizabeth.
