The gravestone of Elizabeth FLOWER and her son George in Chewton Mendip churchyard. The grave
also commemorates Elizabeth's husband John FLOWER who was buried in the neighbouring parish of
Emborough. The inscription below Elizabeth's name comes from a hymn and reads: "Her winter of trouble
is past, the storms of affliction are o’er, her struggle is ended at last, and
sorrow and death are no more". The
inscription below George's name comes from the Wisdom of Solomon and reads:  "But the souls of the
righteous are in the hand of God, and there shall no torment touch them."
